We heal, EMPOWER, AND CONNECT the community through equitable and accessible improv programs

unlocking the arts
We cultivate new improv facilitators and participants from historically excluded communities, and remove financial, cultural, and logistical barriers, so everybody has a way in.
SPARKING PLAY
We deliver judgment-free improv programming in workplaces, community centers, prisons, and everywhere in between. In a time of social disconnectedness and polarization, our therapeutic theater meets people where they are so they can build trust, resilience, and play where it's needed most.
changing the script
Through public performances and community partnerships, we spotlight the roots of improv in social connection and healing, and reframe it as a transformative practice — not a punchline.
What some of our participants have said…
“This was WAY MORE FUN and WAY LESS SCARY than I thought. I think I believe in myself more now! That was quick!”
“The class felt inclusive and welcoming and the skills we practiced very much helped me grow, relate to my anxiety differently, and feel more comfortable and capable outside of class. I also really appreciated how active and involved the class was, the small size, and that we were able to use it as a safe space to work with and learn about managing anxiety. Thank you!!”
“ The positivity of the Unscripted staff was wonderful and, most-importantly, genuine. There was zero condescension, which I wasn’t expecting, but have experienced in group settings before. The weekly planning was fantastic, as were the outside resources provided. It is clear that this was thoughtfully planned with highly qualified personnel who are passionate about the class. The staff were also very flexible and adapted classes to fit the group as needed.”
“I was...unremarkable at improv, and that was more than good enough. That day of performing with and for my classmates was one of the most memorable and joyous days of our time together. It was also one of the most enlightening days for me as an educator. When our class reflected on the lessons we learned after just barely dipping our toes into the world of improv, among our takeaways were things like vulnerability, teamwork, and acknowledging another’s reality, i.e. the real stuff.”
