MIKE GARVIN (HE/HIM)
Formally, Mike Garvin has been an improviser since his halcyon, small-town-Kentucky, high school speech team days in the early aughts. From that induction and introduction he’s “yes, and”-ed the practice both academically and professionally ever since. First pursuing a B.S. and M.A. in Performance Studies at Southern Illinois University- where he also began his teaching career in the core curriculum trenches of Intro to Comm. Studies 101, Public Speaking classes. From there he moved to Chicago to perform stand-up and improv, while continuing to study the craft at the iO (formerly Improv Olympic) Theater. Now with an established reality and residence in Nashville, TN, he’s in his third year as a cast member of the Third Coast Comedy Club Mainstage, and also teaches for the Third Coast Training Center. His interests in Improv Comedy have only escalated through the years, and he’s now particularly fascinated with the neurological and psychological processes are at play in comedic performance, and in turn how improv can elucidate and illuminate that gray matter of the human condition in general.
